Sony Xperia Cosmos: front-facing camera with LED flash appears in leaked photo

(Reuters)

Rumors about an upcoming mid-ranged device from Sony, dubbed the Xperia Cosmos, have been doing the rounds for quite some time, though the company is yet to announce or confirm the launch of such a device. Recently, images of the purported new Sony Android smartphone had been posted on Twitter, showing the device with a large front-facing camera along with an LED flash. New images of the handset have now surfaced online that are more or less similar to the ones leaked earlier, but are clearer.

Rumors suggest that the Xperia Cosmos could possibly be a successor to the Xperia C3, which was released last year and will be the first and only smartphone with a 5 MP front-facing camera and LED flash from Sony. From the earlier leaked images, the device appeared to be a full-touch phone with rounded corners and a side-mounted power button, with Android 5.0 running beneath Sony's custom user interface.

The latest leaked images show the handset's display more clearly and the phone's front-facing camera is now clearly visible along with what appears to be an LED flash. Since it is rumored that the Xperia Cosmos will be marketed by Sony as a selfie phone, the front-facing camera along with the LED flash seen in the latest images make sense, as it will allow users to take better pictures in low-light situations.

Few technical details about Xperia Cosmos are available, though rumors claim that the device will be powered by a MediaTek processor, which is also said to be inside Sony's yet-to-be- released Xperia E4 and Xperia E4g.

More leaks about the release date, specs and price of the Sony Xperia Cosmos will continue to roll out until there is some official announcement from the company. So stay tuned for the latest news on the Sony Xperia Cosmos.
