With the number of mid-range smartphones and phablets arriving in the market, none were surprised when Sony recently announced two mid-range offerings in the form of the Xperia M5 and Xperia C5 Ultra. Here is how these two selfie-focused devices compare.

Design

These two devices are completely different in terms of size. However, both have a metal frame and glass on its front and back. They have also been designed with Sony's OmniBalance design system. Each device's frame slightly protrudes over the glass which provides protection and their corners have added layers of covering which also help prevent the front and back from accidentally breaking. However, when it comes to water and dust proofing, only the Xperia M5 has an IP68 certification, which allows it to be submerged in up to 1.5 meters of water for 30 minutes.

When it comes to comparing the size of their displays, the C5 Ultra has a distinct advantage as it has a 6.0-inch IPS LCD screen with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels and a density of 367 pixels per inch. The M5 is smaller with only a 5.0-inch IPS LCD capacitive screen with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels and a density of 441 pixels per inch.

There is a Mediatek MT6795 chipset on the Xperia M5 and it is coupled with an octa-core CPU clocked at 2.0 GHz and a PowerVR G6200 GPU. The C5 Ultra, on the other hand, has a Mediatek MT6752 chipset and an octa-core CPU clocked at 1.7 GHz and a Mali-T760MP2 GPU.

Memory

Both devices have similar versions of memory slots and each can be used to add up to 200 GB of external storage. Comparing their RAM, the C5 Ultra lags with 2 GB, as the Xperia M5 has 3 GB.

Camera

As for cameras, the Xperia M5 has a 21.5 megapixel version at its rear and a 13 megapixel camera in front great for taking selfies. The rear and front cameras of the C5 Ultra, however, are both 13 megapixels.
