Sony Xperia Z3 Plus vs. Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus: Curved S6 Edge Plus wins over its rival

While no one was surprised that the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge turned out to be just a larger variant of the S6 Edge, the Xperia Z3 from Sony was a big disappointment, as it was only a slight improvement from the company's last year's flagship. Despite their flaws, these are two of the devices which boast of design and hardware. Here is how the two compare.

Design

The S6 Edge is the better looking device among the two as it has a unique design. Its screen has dual curved edges and one can even be customized to display alerts, notifications and a night clock. The edge can also display an Apps Edge comprised of five important apps, along with five important contacts. Colors can even be assigned to each contact, which will light up every time a call from among the selected contacts comes in. As for its build, it has a metal frame and Gorilla Glass 4 on its front and back panel. It also comes with a fingerprint scanner — a feature not present on the Xperia Z3 . It comes in four color options, black, white, gold and silver.

As for the Xperia Z3 , its build follows Sony's OmniBalance design system. It has a metal frame and comes with glass wrapped around the body. As for colors, the Xperia Z3 comes in white, black, copper and green.

Display

The curved screen of the S6 Edge is bigger and it has a 5.7-inch super AMOLED version with a resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels and a density of 518 pixels per inch, while the Xperia Z3 has a 5.2-inch IPS LCD screen with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels and a density of 424 pixels per inch.

Specs

In this category the S6 Edge from Samsung is superior to the Xperia Z3 as it is faster. It has the Exynos 7420 chipset, an octa-core CPU comprised of four Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.5 GHz and four Cortex-A57 cores clocked at 2.1 GHz along with an Adreno 430 GPU. The Xperia Z3 , on the other hand, has the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 chipset, coupled with an octa-core CPU with four Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.5 GHz, four Cortex-A57 cores clocked at 2 GHz and an Adreno 430 GPU.

Memory

There is no memory slot on the device from Samsung but the Xperia Z3 has a version that allows for the addition of up to 128 GB of external storage. As for the RAM, the S6 Edge is ahead with 4 GB, as the Xperia Z3 only has 3 GB.

Camera

The camera on the Xperia Z3 is a 20 megapixel version but it does not have optical image stabilization — a feature present on the S6 Edge 's 16 megapixel camera.

Price

The Sony Xperia Z3 has a price tag of around $650, unlocked, while the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus has a price tag of $299.99 with a two-year contract.
