(Reuters)

Latest rumors regarding the next iteration in the Xperia series, the Sony Xperia Z5, suggest that the screen size of the handset will be getting an upgrade. Fans can now expect a much larger screen for the next Sony smartphone.

According to Tech Radar, these rumors originally came from Leaksfly and the website pointed out that the Android phone is now going to be released with a screen size of 5.5-inch, as opposed to the previous models, which only have a 5.2-inch screen. Due to the screen upgrade, the upcoming mobile phone will be much larger compared to its predecessor.

Furthermore, the same report said that the Sony Xperia Z5 is expected to come with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 and a pixel density of 401 ppi.

As for the phone's other specifications, Tech Times reported that the next iteration is going to be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 CPU, which is also the current processor used by the Xperia Z3 Plus. The 810, as explained on the official website, is a 64-bit octa-core processor with a clock speed of 2GHz.

This CPU is going to be backed up by 3GB of RAM and is expected to be released with 32GB of internal memory storage, as mentioned by Tech Times. However, there is still no news as to whether this upcoming phone's memory is expandable via MicroSD.

In terms of camera, the Sony Xperia Z5 is believed to come equipped with a 20.7 MP rear camera and an upgraded 8 MP front-facing camera.

As for the release date, it was previously hinted that the handset is going to be launched alongside the upcoming James Bond movie "Spectre," which is going to be in November. However, other rumors insist that the Sony Xperia Z5 will more likely be released sometime in September.

Sony has yet to make an official announcement, so as always, it is best to take these rumors with a pinch of salt for now as they have not been confirmed.
