The Super Smash Bros 4 release date for the Nintendo 3DS is set for October 3 this year, its publisher Nintendo officially announced on Tuesday at the E3 Digital event, taking place at E3 2014.

The official Super Smash Bros 4 release date is a push back of the publisher's initial plan to release the game in July.

It will be Super Smash Bros' first release on a handheld device, and will allow players to make use of customizable Mii fighters, which are their personalized representations.

Gamers can choose among the three Mii variants – Mii Brawler, Mii Gunner and Mii Swordfighter. The Mii Brawler is a fast fighter designed for close fight, the Mii Gunner is good for long-range attacks while Mii Swordfighter is a master of weapons.

Miis are avatars created by users on the Nintendo Wii and Wii U consoles, and has now become playable characters in the next Super Smash Bros iteration. The character can change looks, and explore various combat styles.

The gamer can choose what special attack to use out of the Mii's 36 various options. For the first time, players can customize the character, each type of which fight styles differ.

Having Miis in the series is interesting as groups of players have been wanting to have it before, but just did not have a favorable response.

Little Mac, the star of Punch-Out!!, Wii Fit trainer, Animal Crossing villager and the Pokemon Greninja are among the newcomers in the upcoming Super Smash Bros 4 game.

The game is inspired by Mario, where characters collect coins to be able to gain attack as well as defense.

The Super Smash Bros 4 release date for the Wii U has been announced simply as "holiday 2014."
