Tesla has finally unveiled its newest luxury electric SUV, the Model X.

The Tesla Model X is one of the most ambitious undertakings for the Elon Musk-led company and it was met with a series of production delays. Despite the delays, the car remained as one of the most anticipated vehicles due to its amazing and promising features.

The Model X is a gorgeous and futuristic crossover. Much of the hype is due to its unique falcon wing doors that open with a push of a button. The doors are equipped with ultrasonic and capacitive sensors that automatically adjust their opening arc, especially when in confined spaces.

The all-wheel drive SUV features a 90 kWh battery that provides up to 250 miles of range. It is also fast, with the P90D model able to go from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.2 seconds using the Ludicrous Speed Upgrade. Even without it, it is still speedy, able to do the feat in 3.8 seconds. The P90D model boasts 762 horsepower and 713 lb-ft of torque. The 518-horsepower 90D model, on the other hand, reaches 0 to 60 mph in just 4.8 seconds. Both models can reach top speeds of 155 mph.

The Model X can be configured as a six- or seven-seater crossover with ample legroom and cargo space for all its passengers. The seats can be customized to feature ultra-white, tan or black leather. The vehicle also has the largest all-glass panoramic windshield optimized with solar tinting that gives front-row passengers an exceptional view.

According to Musk, the Model X SUV is built with a "Safety First Design" which has top-of-the-line features to ensure the safety and well being of its passengers. The floor-mounted battery gives the vehicle a lower center of gravity, which prevents it from rolling over. The battery support structure also protects the vehicle against side impact collisions. The absence of the gas engine also allows the hood to act as a "giant impact-absorbing crumple zone."

The SUV's safety features also include a 360-degree camera, and radar and sonar systems that provide real-time feedback to help avoid accidents. The automatic emergency braking system operates even under high speeds. Moreover, inside the cabin is a HEPA filter that removes pollen, bacteria and viruses found outside.

During the launch, Musk delivered the first Model X vehicles to six lucky drivers. There are about 30,000 more pre-orders to fulfill, so drivers can expect to receive their own Model X in about nine to 12 months.

There are currently two versions in production: the 90D Signature model, which costs $132,000; and the much faster and sportier P90D Founder model, which costs $142,000. The P90D variant features the Ludicrous Speed driving mode. Less expensive variants of the Model X are said to come later.
