Good things come when they are least expected. And video game insiders were caught unaware when hints of "The Last of Us 2" were dropped last month.

No definite details yet of a "The Last of Us" sequel have been rolled out, but voice actor, Nolan North, sort of confirmed that a second installment is definitely in the works. He was part of the MetroCon Q&A panel and was asked if he had other projects with game developer, Naughty Dog, after "Uncharted 4."

He answered that the game is his last with Naughty Dog, at least in the meantime. However, he then, in a very casual manner, said, "I know they're doing a 'Last of Us 2.'"

There have been previous announcements of a "The Last of Us" sequel but nothing panned out yet as the American developer became too busy with "Uncharted 4: A Thief's End." With Nolan's statement though, fans of the original action survival horror game are hoping that the game will be out sooner.

MoviePilot reported on some of the possible plots and new characters for the sequel. The site suggested that the rumored second installment will focus on Tommy and how he coped after the breakout. And a background explaining how he got separated from Joel may also be weaved in.

Another possible plot suggests keeping the story focused on Ellie and Joel, where the latter lies about the Fireflies and eventually dies while saving the former.

There are some gamers, however, who think that a sequel could just ruin what was an already perfect ending and is therefore totally unnecessary. Highsnobiety pointed out that "The Last of Us" made for a great videogame because of how it unraveled the relationship between Ellie and Joel, as well as its ability to let gamers decide on whether the two will have a happy ending or not.

Details including the release date for "The Last of Us 2" are yet to come out. Stay tuned for updates.
