'The Last of Us 2' release news: fans still asking about the game's release since confirmation by creative director

(Naughty Dog)The main protagonists Ellie and Joel of the game "The Last of Us." There are speculations that one of them might die in the game's sequel.

For some time now, fans have been asking when "The Last of Us 2," the sequel of the critically-acclaimed Naughty Dog title, will be released. The game was confirmed to be in the process of development several months ago by its award-winning creative director and writer Neil Druckmann. However, fans haven't heard from him since then and they were even made more disappointed with the game being a no-show at this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo.

Prior to this, Druckmann explained late last year that they were working on several titles while also trying to come up with ideas for "The Last of Us 2." He added that they were thinking of the protagonists Joel and Ellie, the storyline, and having additional characters for the game. At the same time, Druckmann also mentioned working on prototypes for some sci-fi and fantasy-themed games aside from "The Last of Us 2." However, he explained that by the time they were about to finalize things, they were then tasked to do "Uncharted 4," which came out in May of this year.

Moreover, now that "Uncharted 4" has been dished out, fans are now expecting that Naughty Dog might be giving away new updates regarding "The Last of Us 2." It seems that players will be getting some of the answers they want, but it could be more than they can handle.

The first game actually ended with questions and left players hanging, with Ellie accepting Joel's answer even though she knew that he was lying. There are speculations that there will be deaths in the sequel, and fans are now guessing if these will involve some of the other key characters in the game or if it will be one of the two main characters who gets killed. There are also rumors that Ellie or Joel might be affected mentally due to their current situation. In addition, it was also reported that Ellie's mother, Anna, might finally show up in the game's sequel.

There's no information yet about "The Last of Us 2's" current state. Fans will just have to make do with "The Last of Us Remastered" which is now on sale at $8.
