The Legend of Zelda Wii U release date is currently tipped for a 2015 launch, but already game director Eiji Aonuma hopes that it will hold its own against Hyrule Warriors that will be launched on Sept. 26.

Aonuma particularly highlighted that Hyrule Warriors' cutscenes received rave reviews from the gaming community.

In an interview with Nintendo Life, the genius behind the mega hit franchise talked about what really defines Zelda.

"I can't identify just one element that would make a Zelda game a Zelda game. The Zelda world is usually a big adventure, and it's about many experiences," he responded.

"One of the things that I think is required by a Zelda game is, for example, the loading scenes, which we kept — like the first scene where you come upon a treasure box and you have Link, or whoever, lifting the item up from the treasure box. But we realized we needed more than just that, so we ended up adding more and more aspects that were Zelda-esque — for example, the sound effects and animations that people are familiar with from the franchise."

Zelda Wii U has spurred excitement among the legion of fans keeping an eye on the video game.

In fact, Zelda Wii U was one of the highlights during the last Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3 2014).

Nintendo has also provided impressive gameplay trailer and images during Nintendo Direct presentations.

"As far as what you can do with such a vast field to explore, as soon as those boundaries are removed, it means you can enter any area from any direction," Aonuma said during the event in June.

"So the puzzle solving in this game begins the moment the player starts to think about where they want to go, how they want to get there, and what they will do when they arrive. This is a clean break from the conventions of past games in the Zelda series, where you had to follow a set path and play through the scenario in the right order," he added.
