The 2014 Midyear US National RootScore Report, which determines the top network quality among carriers, named Verizon Wireless as the overall RootScore Award Winner among US carriers.

"Verizon has recaptured the top spot in speed, while AT&T has slipped a little," Bill Moore, CEO for RootMetrics, said in an interview. "Overall the companies are neck and neck. When it comes to reliability, AT&T is getting closer to parity with Verizon."

In essence, Verizon received the highest mark in terms of network quality among all the telecommunications providers in the country.

"We understand that New Englanders truly live a mobile lifestyle – from the beaches to the mountains and communities in between – and staying connected on-the-go has never been more important," commented Michael Murphy, Public Relations Manager for Verizon Wireless New England.

He added, "This most recent independent study confirms Verizon Wireless' network leadership across the country and here at home. Having invested $3.7 billion into our wireless network across New England since 2000, including $179 million in the first half of 2014, we continue to enhance our service to provide customers a great experience today, while building the foundation to drive future innovation."

The Big Red bested AT&T and T-Mobile, which copped the second and third place respectively.

T-Mobile has overtaken Sprint for this particular round of study.

RootMetrics is an independent analytics firm that releases results of a national comprehensive mobile network test study among the four major U.S. wireless carriers twice a year.

For this particular report, RootMetrics tests were conducted form January 2014 until June 2014 in six categories: reliability, speed, data, call, text network performance and overall.

Verizon also claims that their ultra-fast 4G LTE network is the nation's largest.

During the first half of the year, the company unveiled the nationwide XLTE coverage, which is said to be twice as the bandwidth of 4G LTE.

Outside of the overall performance and reliability competition, Verizon has also been handling the pricing war pretty well.
