Windows 10 preview, latest news and updates: Microsoft Spartan web browser for Windows 10 smartphones detailed in leaked screenshots
Microsoft has committed to launching the Windows 10 globally by this summer, but enthusiasts are more excited about the new Spartan web browser which will replace the long-serving Internet Explorer. New leaks have been slipping out of updated ROMs to throw more light on the new pieces of Microsoft's upgrade to its proprietary operating system. Viewers have seen Spartan in action on desktops/notebooks, but newly leaked screenshots from an enthusiast site in Poland now reveal some of the elements of Microsoft's new browser on mobile devices.
Microsoft's Windows 10 aims to resolve the present shortcomings in the user interface as well as unify the Windows, Windows Phone, and Windows Embedded product families around a common internal core. Windows 10 has promised to introduce a new default web browser, presently codenamed 'Spartan,' with a new rendering engine, dubbed 'Edge,' to replace the aging Trident-based Internet Explorer 11.
Microsoft has earlier demoed Spartan that will be included in all Windows 10 releases only on PCs, but is yet to reveal the mobile version of the new browser. Now, leaked screens shots of the upcoming Spartan browser reveal that the address bar has been moved to the top of the screen, allowing users to enjoy an enhanced browsing experience. The repositioning of the address bar from the bottom of the screen to the top is in line with other mobile browsers, such as Safari and Chrome. The refresh button has also been moved from its right-hand position within the address bar to a new location to the left of the address bar.
The leaked screen shots also show a section labeled "Hub" that is the central location for accessing Reading List, Favorites and History on the phone. Moreover, the "hamburger" menu appears to have been replaced with an ellipsis menu at the bottom of the browser window for quick access to settings, Hub, etc.
Going by the leaked screen shots, Project Spartan appears to have got off to a great start and enthusiasts are now eagerly waiting to experience the new Windows 10 default web browser on their phones.
