Audi Q6 H-Tron news: hydrogen fuel-cell concept car may debut at 2016 Detroit Motor Show

Audi is rumored to be unveiling a hydrogen fuel-cell concept vehicle at the 2016 Detroit Motor Show taking place this January. According to the report by Autocar, an Audi spokesperson had claimed that "a concept car with new drive technology" will be revealed during the annual motor show in Detroit.
Audi's upcoming hydrogen fuel-cell concept will most likely be named the Q6 H-Tron. Earlier this year, Audi had filed to trademark "H-Tron" and the German automaker is already known to be developing fuel-cell technology.
Autocar also claims that the Q6 H-Tron will use the same MLB platform as the Q6 E-Tron quattro concept. While the Q6 E-Tron uses batteries, the Q6 H-Tron will be equipped with hydrogen fuel cells.
In terms of design, the two vehicles will bear very similar design cues. If there are to be design changes, it is likely to be minimal.
The Q6 E-Tron is set to go on sale in 2018 and will become a rival to the Tesla Model X. The upcoming Q6 E-Tron is powered by three electric motors that produce 434 horsepower. It has a driving range of 311 miles and zero emissions.
The Q6 H-Tron variant will be joining the Q6 E-Tron at a later date. Audi may also decide to release a Q6 with a more traditional engine powertrain.
With the release of the Q6 E-Tron and H-Tron vehicles, Audi is making an effort to overcome its diesel emissions scandal by focusing on more environmentally-conscious vehicles.
The upcoming Q6 H-Tron already has competition with the recently released fuel-cell vehicles including the Hyundai ix35 Fuel Cell, the Toyota Mirai and the Honda FCV Clarity.
To see if the rumors regarding the Audi Q6 H-Tron are true, be sure to check out the 2016 Detroit Motor Show taking place this Jan. 11 to 26 at the Cobo Center at Detroit, Michigan. Stay tuned for the latest news and updates.
