'Five Night's at Freddy's' movie on its way; Creator Scott Cawthon will be involved in big screen version

The movie rights to the horror video game series 'Five Nights at Freddy's' by indie developer Scott Cawthon has been acquired by Warner Bros. Studios. As reported in this article at the Hollywood Reporter, the production team of Roy Lee, Seth Grahame-Smith, and David Katzenberg have been tapped to pilot the movie adaptation.

Cawthon shared his thoughts on the announcement and indicated that he will be involved in some way with the project. "The story really lends itself to being a movie, and it taps into a largely unexplored niche of horror that a lot of people will be able to relate to," he said. Grahame-Smith echoed Cawthon's sentiments and added that the production team are excited to work with the creator to produce an, in their words, "insane, terrifying, and weirdly adorable movie".

The 'Five Night's at Freddy's' series has produced three video games all set in the fictional Freddy Fazbear's pizza restaurant. Players act as a lone protagonist and navigate their way past various animatronic animal characters while utilizing a series of security cameras scattered throughout the location.

The minimalist design of the game has been widely praised, with many reviewers describing the game as a unique experience in the horror genre. The game's overall aesthetic, despite not having the benefit of high tech graphics, was able to conjure a suspenseful environment for players who ventured within.

Roy Lee is an experienced producers and has worked on several horror films through the years. Lee served as an executive producers for the breakout horror hits 'The Ring' and 'The Grudge'. His next work to appear on screen will be a remake of the 'Poltergeist' starring Sam Rockwell and Rosemarie DeWitt.

Meanwhile, co-producers Grahame-Smith and Katzenberg are also working on a 'Beetlejuice' film sequel.
