iPad mini 5 release date, specs, features: Tablet to arrive in March 2017?

(Apple)The iPad mini 5 is rumored to arrive in 2017. Pictured is the device's predecessor, the iPad mini 4.

The iPhone 7 unveiling has come and gone, but there was no new iPad mini in sight. Previous rumors pointed toward a simultaneous reveal with the iPhone 7, but it quickly became apparent that Apple had different plans for the iPad mini 5. Now, rumor has it that the tablet will be released sometime in March 2017.

The very existence of the iPad mini 5 has yet to be verified by the company, but that has not stopped reports from speculating on the supposed features that will come with the small tablet. As previously stated, there has been talk of the iPad mini line being merged with the iPad Air line to form the iPad Pro mini, but this has not been confirmed.

Expectations about the upcoming device include a thinner and lighter model altogether. Since Apple has a long streak of producing thinner and thinner devices each other, their iPad mini lineup should be no different. But how will they achieve a slimmer look and a lighter weight? As with the iPhone 7, there are rumors claiming that Apple may do away with the headphone jack on its iPad mini lineup as well. In fact, it would not be surprising if the company makes the same changes with all of its future offerings.

As for its other specifications, it is expected that the upcoming tablet will run on an A9 processor with 12-core 7th-gen PowerVR graphics and the latest iOS 10. Its display will measure 7.9 inches, while a 1.2-megapixel camera will be found at the front, and an 8-megapixel camera will serve as its main. It will reportedly have a 3D Touch feature. As for its memory, there is talk of a 3 GB RAM, with internal storage starting at 32 GB. Under the hood is a 5,124 mAh battery.

Since no confirmation has been given by the tech giant, readers should take this news with a grain of salt for now.
