iPhone 8 specs rumors, release date: Next iPhone to sport wireless charging, all-glass casing

(Apple)Apple's iPhone 8 is rumored to sport a major overhaul in design and features.

Another week, another leak. Apple's iPhone 8, scheduled to be released next year in time for the lineup's 10th anniversary, has been plagued by rumors as of late. According to reports, the upcoming device will apparently support wireless charging and an all-glass chassis.

KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo posits that the upcoming iPhone 8 will feature wireless charging, which will be supported by the smartphone's glass casing, reports reveal. The upcoming handheld will also come with OLED panels instead of LCD screens, which have been the norm for quite some time now.

However, there is also a rumor going around that Apple is having trouble with finding a supplier for its OLED screens. Samsung remains one of Apple's largest competitors, and, according to Forbes, one of its biggest suppliers. This is because the South Korean tech giant has the ability to produce OLED screens in large quantities. Apple is apparently in the market for a new supplier, but it doesn't seem to be going very well.

The Cupertino-based tech company has been looking to LG Display, Japan Display, and Sharp for its screens. However, LG Display cannot match Samsung's output rate and Sharp is apparently focusing on other areas of technology. Japan Display, on the other hand, may be in a troubling situation of its own as the publication notes that the company is looking for a financial bailout.

There is also some talk of Apple producing a foldable iPhone. This rumor was sparked by a patent that the company had filed — and won — which involves foldable screen technology. Before Apple made a splash with its first iPhone, flip phones were all the rage.

No release date has been set for the iPhone 8, although it is expected that it will land sometime in late 2017, with an announcement in September.

Since nothing has been officially confirmed yet, readers should take this news with a grain of salt.
