Late last June, as said in our previous report, news broke out that 2K has bought a few domains for the game, "Mafia 3." However, nothing much has been revealed, until recently.

2K, the publisher of the game series, has finally announced and confirmed the existence of the third installment. In the publisher's tweet last July 28, the company announced that the details of the IP will be available at next month's gaming convention, Gamescom 2015.

"We're revealing #Mafia3 next week! See the announcement trailer on 5/8/15 at 1PM BST," 2K said.

According to the report by GameSpot, it was revealed that the next installment in the series is going to be developed by the newly founded, San Francisco-based developing team, Hangar 13. Haden Blackman, as mentioned by the website, will be the one to take the lead on this project.

A different report by GameSpot last year, shed some light on who Blackman was. He was the writer of the "Star Wars" universe in LucasArt, as well as the project lead for the games, "Star Wars Galaxies" and "Star Wars: The Force Unleashed."

"Mafia III is the next installment in the popular series known for immersing players into a world of organized crime through rich narrative storytelling and a beautifully crafted game world featuring period-accurate cars, music, and fashion," the publisher said in their statement.

Unfortunately, no other details have been revealed including which platforms "Mafia 3" will made available for and how much the game will cost.

However, there was a rumor a couple of years back which suggested that the third installment is going to be available for the next-generation consoles, the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One. And it remains just that — a rumor, until 2K finally makes an official announcement and releases the details of "Mafia 3" at Gamescom 2015 next month.
