Developer and publisher, Take-Two, just recently registered "Mafia 3" as their domain. This move could potentially open up speculations whether the company is going to proceed with the third installment or not.

Based on a report by GameSpot, the company, Take-Two, has registered "Mafia 3" domains. However, it was also pointed out that the registration can be easily faked. But before fans of the game get disappointed, it is important to take note that GameSpot did also mention that this move might also be a way for the publishers to secure their intellectual properties—in case they eventually decide to give it a go in the future.

The domain names that were registered are the following:

Mafia3thegame.com

Mafiaiiithegame.com

Mafiathree.com

Mafiathreethegame.com

These domains were registered on June 25, 2015. The person who found this domain names is ekim from NeoGaf and the poster discovered the names on daily changes.

Though GameSpot has a point about it being easily faked, Game Informer recently took a screenshot of the WhoIs of the domain names and based on the screenshot posted by Game Informer via IGN, the organization name used for the domain registration was Take-Two Interactive Software.

However, the company behind the registration was quick. Soon after the initial post was made, the company—assuming it is Take-Two—immediately changed the name into a proxy service.

Because of the recently registered domains, many fans are expecting a "Mafia 3" announcement at Gamescom, which will take place on August 5 to 9.

Take-Two Interactive Software or 2K Czech, the developer of the second installment "Mafia 2," have yet to make an official announcement regarding the long-awaited game.

The announcement of the "Mafia 3" was first revealed back in 2012 and was supposed to be launched on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles. Sadly, due to an unknown reason, it never happened.
