Microsoft Surface Book 2 release date, specs rumors: Device to launch at October 2016 event

(Microsoft)Microsoft's Surface Book 2, the follow-up to the Surface Book (pictured), is rumored to be unveiled in October.

Speculations are rife that Microsoft will be launching the Surface Book 2 next month at an event. The event is also said to unveil the Surface Pro 5 and the Surface Phone.

Although Microsoft has yet to make any such announcement, reports believe that October may be the much-awaited month of reveal. The very existence of the Surface Book 2 is also debatable, but it has been said that recent discounts on Microsoft's current offerings may be pointing toward new iterations being launched soon.

It was previously reported that an Instagram photo from the Microsoft Surface account sparked a lot of speculations that a second-generation Surface Book may be in the works. However, those rumors have not been verified.

Now, reports are saying that the Surface Book 2 may be unveiled next month alongside two other Surface offerings. However, it should also be noted that the likelihood of the Surface Book 2 hitting the market officially within the year is small. Even if Microsoft chooses to reveal the Surface Book 2 in October, that does not guarantee that the company will make it readily available for purchase shortly thereafter. Thus, it's possible that the hybrid laptop may make it to the market in 2017.

There has been talk of Microsoft waiting for certain key parts to be included in the Surface Book 2. One of these is the Windows 10 Redstone 2 operating system. It is believed that the company wants the update to already be on board the Surface Book 2 when it ships. Another feature is the Intel Kaby Lake processor. However, it should be noted that Intel's latest chipset has already been released.

As for its specifications, rumor has it that the upcoming hybrid laptop will sport a 4K resolution, which is definitely a step forward for the company. Apart from that, there is also said to be 3D display.

Since these rumors have yet to be confirmed, readers should take this news with a grain of salt for now.
