'American Horror Story' news: Cate Blanchett is open to appearing on the show if asked
Lady Gaga might be this season's novelty star in "American Horror Story," but the horror anthology has another huge Hollywood name looking to join the ranks of its ensemble cast. With Jessica Lange having left a noticeable void, will this Hollywood actress eventually fill it?
According to Vulture, Cate Blanchett is on board joining Ryan Murphy's TV series, but probably not as a much-needed replacement for Jessica Lange but more as a guest or a cameo or, if the lucky stars align, may be a Lady Gaga-like starring season.
The topic of the FX series came up when the online publication asked Blanchett about her "Carol" co-star, "American Horror Story" regular Sarah Paulson. The 46-year old, two-time Academy Award-winning actress only had good things to say about Paulson, who plays Hypodermic Sally in the current season of "AHS."
"She's brilliant. I've long admired her onstage and onscreen, and it was such a pleasure to work with her. In every gesture and every look, she just speaks volumes," said Blanchett of her co-star.
Asked if she'll ever consider acting alongside Paulson in the latter's regular show, she said she would if Paulson asked.
"You know, she hasn't asked! [But] yeah, if she asked me," she told Vulture.
While it's a long shot for Blanchett to replace Lange, it's not impossible for her to lend her talents to the FX show. Murphy, after all, had attracted other big-named stars to work with him on his shows. The list includes Kathy Bates and Angela Bassett, who are also semi-regulars on "AHS," Gwyneth Paltrow, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Barbara Streisand.
While everybody waits for word on Blanchett's appearance on "American Horror Story," fans can content themselves in the meantime with the latest season.
"American Horror Story: Hotel" airs on FX very Wednesday night.
