Avatar 2 movie update: Writers announced, two other sequels coming up
James Cameron's highly successful CGI spectacle, Avatar, will have not one, but three sequels to follow the box office hit.
After grossing $2.7 billion in the box office, it's only right for director James Cameron to churn out a follow-up to Avatar. Avatar fans will be pleased to find out that not only does the movie promise a part 2, but there will also be a part 3 and 4. According to reports, part 2 is already on its pre-production stage, with animators crafting the characters and the environments that will last up to the 4th installment. Avatar 2 is set to be released on December 2016.
The writers for the sequels have also been picked. Screenwriters Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver, who wrote The 'Rise of The Planet of The Apes' and 'Dawn of The Planet of The Apes,' are set to pen the second installment of Avatar. Josh Friedman (War of the Worlds) has been assigned to write Avatar 3; and Shane Salerno, who's famous for writing Armageddon and Savages, has been tasked to be in charge of Avatar 4's screenplay. All three sequels will be written at the same time to pave way to intertwining story lines and connections.
Cameron further revealed that the sequels will revolve around Pandora and will further explore the habitable moon. Stars who have been in the first movie are set to return for the sequels, including Zoe Saldana (Neytiri), Sigourney Weaver (Grace Agustine), Sam Worthington (Jake Sully), and Stephen Lang (Miles Quaritch).
