Despite the "Bad Boys" action franchise underwhelming critics, there is no denying that both "Bad Boys 1" and "Bad Boys 2" are box-office hits. Many wonder why a third movie has yet to be ordered. Thankfully, after 15 years since the last movie was released, it was confirmed by Martin Lawrence himself that the series would finally be rounded up by a third movie.

Sony Pictures has tapped writer/director Joe Carnahan to take the lead in developing the upcoming "Bad Boys 3." He has yet to confirm his participation in the project, however, should he accept the role, he would be replacing big-name director, Michael Bay.

Lawrence, who plays the role of Detective Marcus Burnett, recently revealed that he has been aching to film the third movie in the franchise. According to him, even before his announcement this year, there have already been talks about developing the movie, however, most of the efforts failed to actualize. The rapper turned actor even updated his social media account, tagging Will Smith in a recent post on Instagram saying,

"11 years ago today, Bad Boys II was released in theatres. Feelin' it's about time for number 3.....What do you think Will Smith?"

Smith, who plays the role of Detective Mike Lowrey in both "Bad Boys 1 and 2" has not yet confirmed whether or not he would be a part of the third movie. But Sony is not yet closing its doors to the possibility that Smith will accept their offer.

With the perfect combination of Smith and Lawrence in the previous "Bad Boys" movies, fans blatantly said that it will not be the same if one of the characters will be replaced. Therefore, expect Sony to be doing everything they can to convince and bring back Smith to the third installment of "Bad Boys."

The expected release date of "Bad Boys 3" is on Feb. 17, 2017
