'Bates Motel' season 5 air date, news: Rihanna films in Vancouver, shares Marion Crane photo
Production for "Bates Motel" is currently underway. Its fifth season is getting a lot of buzz not only because it's the final installment but also because of a particularly famous name playing the role of Marion Crane. Singer Rihanna has been spotted filming scenes for the show in Vancouver.
Avid fans know by now that Rihanna is bringing to life the role that was originally played by Janet Leigh in Alfred Hitchcock's "Psycho," the 1960 film on which the show is based. Many people are looking forward to seeing Rihanna in the momentous shower scene, which has become iconic in cinema history.
According to Just Jared, Rihanna was seen in Vancouver on Nov. 15 filming her scenes in an episode directed by fellow "Bates Motel" star Nestor Carbonell, who plays Alex Romero. Two weeks ago, the "Work" singer took to her Instagram account to post a photo captioned, "when you bout to check in," accompanying it with the hashtag #MarionCrane.
The photo depicts a model of the shower scene with a cutout of Rihanna as Marion Crane peeking through the shower curtains. The series' take on the climactic scene is yet unknown.
Apart from Rihanna, two new cast members have been tapped to join the final season of the A&E horror series. As previously reported, Isabelle McNally and Brooke Smith will be playing Madeleine Loomis and Dana Green, respectively. Smith's Dana Green is the new sheriff, replacing Alex Romero.
McNally's character, however, remains more of a mystery. Described as "a warm and kindhearted woman who bears a striking resemblance to a young Norma Bates," Madeleine Loomis' role in the story arc of the season is anyone's guess.
It should be noted, though, that her last name — Loomis — was also a character's last name in the original "Psycho" film. Played by John Gavin, Sam Loomis was Marion's boyfriend in the Alfred Hitchcock masterpiece.
"Bates Motel" does not have a specific release date yet, but it is believed that it will air sometime in early 2017.
