'Bates Motel' season 5 spoilers: Executive producer Carlton Cuse to cameo in episode 5 of final season
Screenwriter and executive producer of A&E's psychological drama series "Bates Motel," Carlton Cuse, is expected to make a cameo in the fifth and final season of the series.
Variety has learned that the show's exec will be portraying a cop in the fifth episode of "Bates Motel" season 5. Cuse's character is the Ray Bans-wearing "super stern" highway patrol cop keeping tabs on Rihanna's Marion Crane following her escape.
According to Cuse, the character is pretty shady. On a tweet to Debra Birnbaum, the exec wrote, "Well, yes, you'll just have to wait and see how shady 'Cop' is."
Reports say that the idea of Cuse appearing on "Bates Motel" came from Cuse's co-executive producer Kerry Ehrin. She told Variety, "I find Carlton super amusing. He's larger than life in a great way." They joked about it ever since, but they eventually went with it because Cuse was also on board. When they settled for a character, Ehrin said that Cuse was "a good sport about it."
Speaking to Variety, lead star Freddie Highmore, who portrays the infamous Norman Bates, said, "He's got that gravitas, but at that same time, there's that underlying deadpan humor coupled with his voice that makes it a much more interesting scene than just another cop. He brings the cop to life." To note, Cuse is the voice behind the "previously on" teasers of the show.
The episode starring Cuse will be titled "Dreams Die First." As revealed in the synopsis for the installment, Norman's mental state will worsen. He will try to retrace his mother Norma's (Vera Farmiga) movements. His brother Dylan (Max Thieriot) and Emma (Olivia Cooke) will have to face a horrible truth. Meanwhile, Rihanna's Marion will be left with no choice but to make an unwise decision that will inevitably open up several consequences.
"Bates Motel" season 5 episode 5, titled "Dreams Die First," premieres on Monday, March 20, at 10 p.m. EST on A&E.
