'Big Bang Theory' season 9 spoilers: Mayim Bialik says viewers shouldn't jump to obvious conclusions about Amy and Sheldon
It was a shocker to see Sheldon Cooper (Jim Parsons) holding what appears to be an engagement ring in the finale of "Big Bang Theory" season eight. But before people start speculating on a proposal, the actress who plays Amy Farrah Fowler says people should not jump to any obvious conclusions.
Mayim Bialik, who portrays Amy Farrah Fowler on the hit CBS sitcom "The Big Bang Theory," spoke with Los Angeles Times about the season eight finale. She first defended Amy's decision to break up with Sheldon over Skype, which seemed a little harsh. She says that, given their dynamic as a couple, a Skype break-up seemed "completely appropriate." She then explains about the ring in question.
Bialik, who is the only cast member in the sitcom that actually has a PhD, says that viewers can only assume what Sheldon was planning to do with the ring, however, it may and may also not be a proposal. She also points out that it was never made clear as to how Sheldon got hold of the ring. She hints that it might have been given by Sheldon's mom and jokingly says, "Only Gollum knows."
The 39-year old actress, however, says that she understands why people are jumping to all sorts of conclusions. All the speculations mean that fans have grown to love their characters and are excited to get ahead of the story. She adds, "But the neat thing about our show ... and Jim and my character's relationship is that anything can happen. And I think the finale was proof of that."
Aside from Sheldon and Amy, fans will also learn about the fate of Raj's (Kunal Nayyar) relationship with Emily (Laura Spencer), as well as whether Leonard (Johnny Galecki) and Penny (Kaley Cuoco) decided to go through with their Las Vegas wedding or not, in season nine.
"Big Bang Theory" returns for season nine on September 21.
