'Blindspot' season 2 spoilers, news: New themes to be explored; more details behind Jane's past revealed
Season 1 of the critical hit "Blindspot" ended with Jane Doe (Jaimie Alexander) getting arrested and learning a little more about her identity. The upcoming season of the NBC series will reportedly explore various themes, including family.
In one of EW's Spoiler Room updates, executive producer Martin Gero shared what fans can expect come the new season. "It will surprise you not at all that the themes are redemption and family," he said.
Additionally, the first two episodes of season 2 will go deeper on Jane's involvement in the shadowy group responsible for her tattoos. The big reveal is definitely an exciting one — something that many have speculated on in the past.
The premiere episode of season 2 will pack a lot of events. First of all, when the crime drama series returns, there will reportedly be a three-month time jump. Second, numerous flashbacks are expected to be shown in the first episode. The flashbacks will depict the training Jane underwent, in order to be ready for what lies ahead.
In other news, "Blindspot" season 2 has added a new cast member to its roster. Archie Panjabi, who is known for her work on "The Good Wife," will have a recurring role in the new season. She is reportedly going to portray a character in charge of an NSA secret division that has been keeping tabs on the Jane Doe issue.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Gero revealed that season 2 will be somewhat similar to the first season. "We've come up with a really good and organic way that the show can operate in a similar fashion to how it did in the first season, but with a lot more stakes and being a lot more complicated. We get back into the Jane Doe business in a really interesting way in the beginning of season 2," he said.
It remains to be seen how the themes of family and redemption will play into the new season. Will these somehow contribute to the higher stakes and complexity of season 2?
