'Blindspot' season 2 spoilers, update: Borden was not originally a mole; Roman returns with a major part
NBC's hit crime drama "Blindspot" season 2 shocked fans with its most recent episode, "Why Let Cooler Pasture Deform," when Patterson (Ashley Johnson) exchanged gunshots with Borden (Ukweli Roach).
The recently aired "Blindspot" season 2 episode 9 saw the revelation of the mole, Borden. Roman (Luke Mitchell) was seen struggling with his memories and the yet-to-be-revealed aftermath of Patterson and Borden's exchange of gunshots.
The second half of "Blindspot" season 2 will premiere early next year. Series creator Martin Gero hinted in an interview with Entertainment Weekly that fans can still hope that Patterson is still alive. However, he confirmed that one of them is shot.
In a separate interview with Yahoo TV, Gero explained why Borden is the mole. "Borden just made the most sense. He was the other new person on the team," he said. "If you look back, Borden's the one who's saying, 'Hey, don't quit the FBI.' He's been able to keep [Jane] on mission. He's been pushing her toward having a relationship with Weller and trying to convince Weller to open up to Jane about Taylor Shaw so they could have valuable intel."
The series creator also revealed that their first choice was not Borden but Zapata (Audrey Esparza), but they soon realized that it would be a terrible idea. In effect, they made sure that there are no traces of Zapata as the mole in the pilot.
Apart from revealing the mole, the episode also saw Jane (Jaimie Alexander) wiping Roman's memories. Gero revealed that Jane's decision to erase Roman's memories was one of the biggest and boldest decisions she had ever made. After realizing that Roman was already a lost cause and he can never trust Jane again, she tries to bring him back to zero, which is reminiscent of her beginnings on the show — with no recollection of the past. The creator added that Roman will be a major part in the second half of the sophomore season.
"Blindspot" season 2 returns on Jan. 4 on NBC.
