'Captain Marvel' release date, cast news: Ronda Rousey thinks Mile 22 will give her the acting skills she needs to play Carol Danvers
As if Ronda Rousey does not have enough on her plate already - from winning Ultimate Fighting Championships to leading roles in a few movies - she is still pushing to land that coveted role of Captain Marvel.
A couple of months ago, MMA fighter Ronda Rousey already expressed desires to play Carol Danvers a.k.a. Captain Marvel. It seems those sentiments have not changed a bit, even after landing the lead in the "Road House" remake and getting a starring opposite Mark Wahlberg in "Mile 22." If any, she hopes her recent acting experience will allow her to don the said role.
"I'm really looking forward to doing my first starring role opposite Mark Wahlberg. Hopefully by the time 'Captain Marvel' comes around, I will have enough experience and skills in the field for them to really seriously consider me," she told Entertainment Tonight.
While there have been no talks as to whether the 28-year old is included in the list of actresses being considered for the Marvel film, word is out that three other superstars are already being considered: Emily Blunt, Rebecca Ferguson, and Charlize Theron, with Ferguson being the number one contender, thanks to her strong performance in "Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation." Blunt, on the other hand, has denied that she is even being considered, saying she has not had as much as a phone conversation about the role.
Back to Rousey, she is excited about having a gender flip for the lead in "Road House." She adds that she had been pursuing the role for the past two years.
But it's not her first acting role, per se. the MMA UFC champion have had appearances in several action movies, including "The Expendables 3" and "Furious 7." But more than her acting, she is also making waves in her original arena. She is set to defend her belt on Nov. 14 against Holly Holm.
"Captain Marvel" is tentatively pegged for 2018.
