Chicago Bulls rumors: Can they possibly trade Derrick Rose?

(USA Today Sports / Reuters)Derrick Rose of the Chicago Bulls in action.

It has been an abrupt fall from grace for Derrick Rose. The Chicago Bulls guard went from being the NBA Most Valuable Player in the 2010-11 season and dubbed as the best point guard in the league to now a shadow of his former self.

However, it is not entirely his fault. Injuries slowed down a steadily rising career for the 26-year-old and since then, he has been put under a microscope for every move that he makes.

Rose is still a great player, better than a lot of guards who play in the league. The biggest thing that hurts him is the price they have for him may not be directly proportionate to the results he is giving the team.

In the 2014-15 season, the Bulls looked formidable as they acquired Pau Gasol and had a great core of players with Joakim Noah, Jimmy Butler and Rose.

Drafting forward Nikola Mirotic did not hurt either as it gave them another scoring option to stretch the defenses.

Unfortunately, it proved not to be enough as they were eliminated by the Cleveland Cavaliers -- and it seems that all the fingers point to Rose.

He showed glimpses of his former self in the playoffs, exploding for points, assists and steals while also coming up big for the team as he hit buzzer beaters.

But everyone expects a player who earns $18 to 20 million a year to do more -- and do everything consistently.

Injuries have plagued Rose and will forever affect how he plays. But is it better to just cut the losses and send in new players to replace him?

Talks have circulated that the Bulls are willing to let go of their superstar in order to bring in new talent.

Undoubtedly, there are teams who will look to get Rose on their team but his current market value is too high.

He is under contract until the end of the 2016-17 season where he is expected to earn around $21 million and whether he is worth it is only going to be determined through time.

With his name being dangled on small trade rumors, it is best to believe that he is going to stay at least one more season to prove himself. If he does, then the gamble pays off. If it does nott, then Rose may see himself in a new location in the near future.
