It is confirmed, "Destiny 2" will be released next year.

The confirmation about the full game sequel to "Destiny" was announced twice this month. First was during the game publisher Activision Blizzard's earnings call, early in February. Second was on the weekly blog post for "Destiny" on Bungie's official website.

Bungie community manager David "Deej" Dague briefly addressed the release date of "Destiny 2" in the company's blog post.

He said that before the holiday break, they have announced that a larger new expansion is slated to come out in Spring. The additional content includes significant Light increase, new gear to earn and equip, and new challenges for PvE players to get additional experiences and replayability. "Beyond that, the team is focused on delivering a large expansion later this year, and a full 'Destiny' sequel in 2017," he added.

Since last year, a bunch of rumors have been circulating online on what to expect in the upcoming installment of "Destiny."

According to Tech Insider, the game will be called "Destiny 2: The Shattered Suns" and it might focus on the lost warlock character named Osiris.

The never been seen character named Osiris is an allusion to the weekly multiplayer tournament called "Trials of Osiris." Described as an Obi-Wan Kenobi-esque mentor, the warlock was originally the focus of the first title, but it was later scrapped off when the game's story rebooted.

Osiris was apparently exiled to a temple in Mercury and created his own cult there. However, he vanished and left followers who still carry on his work.

There are also rumors that game developer Bungie might not sell or release separate expansions or DLCs after "Destiny 2" comes out. Also, Activision Blizzard's subsidiary company named High Moon Studios might handle or might help in the next installment.

Lastly, since the matchmaking tools for "Destiny" is very basic and limited, Bungie might possibly allow matchmaking for raids or nightfall strikes.

Although the mentioned speculations got the fans very hyped up for the release of "Destiny 2," none of the rumors have been confirmed yet by both the publisher and the developer of the game.
