'Empire' season 2 news: Andre first official poster out; Royo cast in a recurring role as sharp lawyer

Lucious Lyon may be rotting in jail when fans last saw him, but it seems like it will not be for long. In the freshman season finale of "Empire," viewers saw Terrence Howard's character get arrested and thrown into jail for Bunkie's murder. Cookie's ex-husband warned "The day will come when Lucious Lyon will return," and it seems a recent cast member's addition affirms that the self-made man will indeed be back.

"Empire" has cast "The Wire" star Andre Royo in a recurring role as Thirsty Rawlings, reports TVLine. Rawlings is a quick-witted lawyer with a questionable past. He regularly uses suspicious ways and unethical tactics to assist his clients. It seems Rawlings will make quite an impression on the recently-arrested Lyon patriarch.

Doubtless Rawlings will assist Lucious in getting out of jail and returning to his hip-hop business to seek vengeance and make his comeback. Apart from Royo, fans will also see singing star, Kelly Rowland, appearing in flashbacks as Lucious' mother and Marisa Tomei as a billionaire-cum-venture capitalist.

The fact that Lucious' mother will be seen indicates that "Empire" enthusiasts will get a glimpse into Lucious' past. This will provide some fodder for drama and twists to Fox's mega-hit show.

Meanwhile, Fox has released the first official poster of season two of "Empire" and at first glance, it is evident that the theme was inspired by the animal kingdom. Taraji P. Henson is seen sitting on an elegant golden throne with her trademark stare. Her claws are highlighted in the image. To make matters even more interesting, she is flanked on the left by a large, majestic and roaring lion.

Howard is seen sitting next to his co-star with a relaxed attitude and a lioness sitting comfortably to his right. Judging by the poster and Henson's roaring lion, it seems Henson's Cookie is ready to play with the big leagues.

"Empire" season two airs on Sept. 23, 2015 on Fox.
