Gray and Juvia's battle may end up with one of them dying in the upcoming chapter 499 of the hit manga "Fairy Tail."

The previous chapter 498 of "Fairy Tail" left fans curious as to the aftermath of the intense battle between Invel Yura and Gray. Invel told Gray that he possesses a very strong force of darkness. The upcoming chapter 499 may finally reveal Gray's hidden darkness.

According to reports, chapter 499 may open with the forced battle between Gray and Juvia. In chapter 498, both of them were under Invel's Ice Lock ability and it disables them to control their bodies. They are basically under Invel's manipulation since the attack enables Invel to control their minds. In order to break the spell, one of them must die. Even though Gray and Juvia are comrades, Juvia decides to sacrifice herself to spare Gray's life. She will also figure out that her death could be the key to activate the darkness inside Gray.

Invel, who may have underestimated the situation, will not be pleased to learn that Juvia's death could help unleash Gray's greater power. However, Gray himself would not want Juvia to end up dead so he tries to break the spell he is under, but may end up hurting not only Juvia even more but himself as well. Juvia eventually casts a spell that will transfuse her blood to Gray.

After Juvia's sacrifice, Gray regains his strength and will be released from Invel's attack. It is predicted that Gray's rage over Juvia's death will trigger his darkness to come out and unleash his greater powers. Gray's motivation may no longer be just plainly defeating Invel but most importantly to avenge the death of his dear friend Juvia. Invel may not expect the kind of opponent Gray is going to be now that he has reached another level.

"Fairy Tail" Chapter 499 is set to release on Aug. 31.
