'Frozen 2' movie news: Josh Gad talks about Olaf
While "Frozen" is a Disney movie that talks about sisters love more than anything else, one character that viewers immediately took a liking to was Olaf the Snowman. Many are excited about the upcoming sequel, but details about the movie remain scarce. Actor Josh Gad, the voice behind Olaf, said "'Frozen 2' is very much in the development phase right now, so I don't know anything."
Actress Kristen Bell said last month that recording should start soon and that the script for the movie is almost done. Bustle prodded Gad more and asked him about a possible love story for his character, and he said, "I think it's a fan theory. I think it's weird if people are like," and with deep voice he added, "'Hey! What's Olaf like when he's in love?'"
The main stars of the story, sisters Anna and Elsa, had a very close relationship when they were young, but playtime turned bad when Elsa accidentally struck her sister with ice power. From that day on, Elsa kept her distance from her sister for her own protection. Anna was made to forget about that fateful day and grew up wondering why her sister suddenly became cold toward her.
Olaf was one of those memories that reminded the sisters of what they once had. He is the Snowman who wanted warm hugs, and in the story, it was the warmth of sister love that saved both the sisters and their kingdom.
Gad seems to resonate what audience feels toward Olaf. He said, "What I love about Olaf is his youthful optimism and naivety about life, so anything that comes to contrast to that, and is disruptive to that — unless it serves a great creative purpose — I would be hesistant about." The actor went on to say he trusts the writers, and if Olaf is meant to fall in love in the sequel then "great," he said.
