Fans of the Cajun speaking X-man superhero might have to wait much longer as rumors have it that 20th Century Fox has decided to set aside the filming of "Gambit."

Earlier this year, Fox announced that the movie would have an October 2016 playdate. Recent rumors, however, say that Fox has cancelled it to make way for "Deadpool 2" and another unnamed Marvel superhero movie.

Deadpool is scheduled to premiere on Oct. 6, while the other movie is set to be released on Jan. 12, 2018, according to Wired.

The website further added that it is weird because after pulling off "Gambit" from its original playdate, the movie now doesn't have a definite release date schedule. This new development will lead fans to come up with speculations.

It can be remembered that Gambit was first introduced in "X-Men Origins: Wolverine," with the character played by Taylor Kitsch. Fans, however, were disappointed because Marvel forgot one important element of the character — his Cajun accent.

Gambit has the power to control kinetic and potential energy by touching it. He usually uses a deck of playing cards and throws them to explode things. He also uses a staff as his weapon, coupled with his formidable martial arts skills.

It seems that changes isn't new to the "Gambit" movie. Last year, fans were also surprised when Fox announced that it was going to change the movie's director. Originally, Rupert Wyatt was chosen to helm the movie, but his sudden resignation in September caused Fox to replace him with Doug Liman.

Aside from these changes, the cast and the movie producers are still the same. Channing Tatum will be in the title role as the card-wielding, French-speaking Remy LeBeau. On the other hand, French actress Lea Seydoux will play Gambit's love interest, Bella Donna Boudreaux.

Josh Zetumer will write the screen adaptation of the movie. Furthermore, Lauren Shuler Donner and Simon Kinberg will produce "Gambit."
