'Ghostbusters' 3 movie news: Photos of all-female 'Ghostbusters', Slimer set to be back
There was something strange in the neighborhood, a Boston neighborhood that is, as filming began for the new "Ghostbusters" movie.
Buzz for the movie is starting to pile up now that the first photos from the set have appeared online. One photo shows Melissa McCarthy carrying what might be the "ghost trap," with Kate McKinnon running beside her dressed in dirty overalls and wearing steam punk shades.
There were also photos of Kristen Wiig and she was dressed in a suit reminiscent of what the librarian in the first "Ghostbusters" movie was wearing. There are no photos of Leslie Jones, the fourth Ghostbuster, yet.
Wiig's outfit during the first day of shooting fit the details The Boston Herald claims to have gotten. According to its report "Wiig and McCarthy play a pair of unheralded authors who write a book positing that ghosts are real. Flash forward a few years and Wiig lands a prestigious teaching position at Columbia U." But she was forced out of the academe when the book surfaced. And like in the original movie, Wiig proved her critics wrong when ghosts started appearing.
The reboot obviously wants to remain true to the spirit of the original film but will be putting its own unique spin on it. The role of their receptionist, for instance, will be handled by "Thor" actor Chris Hemsworth. The part is said to have been tweaked to fit the hunky actor's immense frame.
The "Ghostbusters" reboot apparently has the blessings of Dan Aykroyd. The man who came up with the idea for the classic movie is all praises for Director Paul Feig's new spin on the film. While talking to "Spinoff Online", the veteran funnyman says the movie "with the four girls is going to be massive. Oh man, it's funny. It's intelligent. It hits the right notes, and I'm really excited about it!"
Aykroyd is so excited about the movie that he is actually in negotiations to do a cameo as his iconic character, Dr. Ray Stantz. But he is not the only one returning. Everyone's favorite ghost, Slimer, will also be back. Unfortunately, there is no word yet if Bill Murray or Ernie Hudson will be gracing the film.
Ivan Reitman, the original "Ghostbusters" director, is producing the film which is set to appear in theaters on July 22, 2016.
