Director Paul Feig had been very generous with photos and updates on his new "Ghostbusters 3" film. And earlier last month, he kept fans of the franchise in the loop by posting a photo of the all-female ghost-busting team.

Fans of the "Ghostbusters" franchise were given a sneak peek at the new "Ghostbusters 3" uniform, proton pack and Ecto-1. There were lots of changes in the team's uniform, making it more practical and safety-friendly, but the Ecto-1 stayed pretty much the same with just minor changes like the absence of a tail fin.

But what fans really wanted to see was the new team. After all, it is the first time that the ghost-fighting team will be composed of an all-female cast.

Earlier in July, Feig finally caved in. He tweeted a photo of the cast members, Leslie Jones, Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon, and Kristen Wiig in their new Ghostbusters uniforms, standing in front of their new Ecto-1. Fieg captioned the photo with the iconic, "#whoyougonnacall."

Response from Twitter users have been mostly positive. Feig's update has been retweeted 16,000 times so far and almost the same number of people had marked the photo as a favorite.

Jones, McCarthy, McKinnon, and Wiig will be stepping into the roles once played by Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Bill Murray, and Harold Ramis. They will be joined by their secretary played by Chris Hemsworth while SNL's Neil Casey will be playing the villain, Rowan. The film is co-scripted by Feig with Kate Dippold.

The first "Ghostbusters" film was in 1984, a brainchild of Aykroyd with help from the late Ramis for the original screenplay. It was an instant hit, making it one of the most popular American media franchises.

Aside from another movie in 1989, it also spawned two animated television series, "The Real Ghostbusters" and "Extreme Ghostbusters," as well as a few video game titles.

"Ghostbusters 3" hits theaters on July 2016.
