'God of War 4' release date news: Kratos remains the God of War

(Facebook/God of War)Kratos is still the God of War in the eponymous game's sequel.

After it was long speculated that a new "God of War" game is at hand, it is finally confirmed that "God of War 4" is, indeed, in the pipeline. Basing on the trailer, one can be tricked into thinking that someone else will be succeeding Kratos as the new God of War, but, apparently, he is still the God of War.

It was in April when Kotaku reported that the upcoming "God of War" game would feature Norse mythology, and Kratos will no longer be its main character. The publication opines it's high time that the game killed Kratos to give the game a new kind of excitement. After all, "God of War 3" underperformed as far as sales is concerned. The publication also opines that the character has already reached the point where it has to retire. Otherwise, his legacy will be tarnished.

Apparently, this will not be the case.

In its latest report, Kotaku claims that Kratos' presumed successor, his son, will not replace him in "God of War 4," at least not yet. Reportedly, the kid will just be his companion throughout the game. In fact, the game comes with a button at the controller that is especially dedicated to control the young boy so that he can help Kratos in navigating the world and in his battle.

In the said trailer, an apparently older Kratos is seen sporting a beard and goatee. Just a few seconds after the start of the game's teaser, a young boy appears on the screen, who turns out to be the God of War's son.

The trailer shows Kratos guiding his son on how to hunt properly when a giant troll attacks the two, Kratos attacks it and tells his son that it is time for him to redeem himself as he earlier missed hitting a deer. However, when the boy unleashes his arrow, he hits his father instead. Nonetheless, Kratos is still able to kill the opponent.

As the boy apologizes, Kratos casually tells his son to go back searching for the deer he missed hitting earlier. Eventually, the boy finds the deer, and Kratos tells him to wait for his cue before unleashing his bow.

Finally, he hits the target.

However, when Kratos tells him to kill the deer, the boy displays reluctance. His father guides his hand into driving a knife to the dying deer until the poor animal is finally killed. After a while, he tells his son that he is finally ready, to which the son asks "for what?"

Kratos replies "a new beginning."

As to what Kratos exactly meant with "a new beginning," fans can only wait and see until the game is officially launched.
