Google Nexus 2016 release date update: New swipe fingerprint scanner rumored to be featured

(Google)Inset is the current Google Nexus phone produced by Huawei. The upcoming Nexus phones are said to be produced by HTC.

After reports surfaced that the upcoming Google Nexus phones will be sporting Google's newest homescreen launcher, a lot of phone users have been curious about what more fresh features will the smartphones be featuring. Here is a roundup of details about the Google Nexus 2016.

Android Police just recently broke the news that the upcoming Marlin and Sailfish phones of the Google Nexus line will debut the newest home screen launcher. It's designed to be less dependent on buttons, in order to launch the app drawer. The new way to access the app drawer is by dragging the drawer upward from the app dock. New design changes will also grace the app dock, including the blur effect to make the apps stand out.

Aside from the new launcher, the upcoming Nexus phones will also be featuring a swipe fingerprint scanner to check your notifications. According to a separate report from Android Police, Google is eyeing on including a new gesture technology for its upcoming flagship smartphones, in order to access the notification panel using the fingerprint.

The source even provided a leaked animated image of the technology. However, this feature is not foreign in the smartphone market. Several phone makers have already made this available, in order to access cameras or to move user interface. One example would be Huawei's Honor 5X.

The previous Nexus phones have also featured an earlier fingerprint technology, which is limited to unlocking the device and authenticating Play Store purchases. This newer fingerprint technology, however, is expected to bring more use.

Other speculations also reveal that the two new Nexus handsets will be running on the latest Android 7.0 Nougat operating system fresh from the box. Since the OS is coming out a few weeks from now, this could mean that the release of Marlin and Sailfish will also happen sooner. Although Google has not officially announced the date of release, there is a high chance that it will come out within August.
