'Graceland' season 4 news: Show creator reveals direction next season would have taken prior to cancellation
"Graceland's" third season ended with such a jaw-dropping twist that had fans eagerly waiting for what would come next. Unfortunately, the police drama was officially cancelled by the USA Network, leaving in its wake fans who will forever wonder what happened to Jakes and the rest of the Graceland occupants. The producers' big plans for season 4 will no longer come alive on the small screen.
The series started out on a strong note and the story line kept improving per season, with the undercover agents living in Graceland spiraling more and more out of control until it became very difficult to tell whether they had gone rogue or were just keeping their covers intact.
By the time the season 3 finale came along, the occupants of Graceland came back home after taking down the Sarkissian mafia, only to discover that Jakes had run off with all the money they stole from the ATF — money that they were planning to use to disappear.
The finale was admittedly one of the best cliffhangers in recent memory and one that the cast hoped would be enough to convince the network to push through with another season.
According to an interview that Daniel Sunjata (Paul Briggs) gave to Zap2it, the whole cast had their fingers crossed that there would be another season so they could continue telling "Graceland's" stories. Sadly, it was not meant to be. A source explained that while "Graceland" was a great, creative show, the "ratings didn't justify bringing it back from a financial perspective."
That was just too bad as the show's creator, Jeff Eastin, already had plans for how season 4 would unfold. The 48-year-old screenwriter revealed to The Hollywood Reporter that they had plans to promote Brandon Jay McLaren, who portrays Jakes, to series regular. He also admitted to considering a time jump of six months after Jakes departure for the fourth season.
Unfortunately, all of their well-laid plans have come to naught, but Eastin appears not to regret a thing and has said that he's happy and proud of the three seasons of "Graceland."
