The widely popular TV series "Grey's Anatomy" is now halfway into its 12th season, and its production is bringing a lot more climactic plots and drama to the table — including how Meredith Grey copes with an unexpected trauma and what could possibly happen to the relationship between Jackson Avery and April Kepner.

The latest TGIT promo trailer for the return of "Grey's Anatomy," "Scandal" and "How to Get Away from Murder" shows Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) lying face down on the ground, with terrified eyes and blood in her right hand. She then wakes up on a hospital bed with cuts and bruises over her face and an oxygen mask over her mouth.

Cast members confirmed the terrifying experience of Meridith's in an ambush interview with E! Online. Sarah Drew, who plays as April Kepner, revealed, "[Meredith's assault is] up there with the worst of it. It's really high because also, she is totally powerless in the midst of it. I think that probably is the most terrifying piece of it for her."

"For every other trauma, there was some element of control that she still had over her life, but she's pretty paralyzed by this one," she further detailed.

The assault seems to happen at the hospital, which made fans suspect that she may have been attacked by a patient or a patient's friend or family member.

Drew, in a separate interview with Entertainment Weekly, also provided some details on Jackson (Jesse Wesley Williams) and April's marriage. She said that the first few episodes of the mid-season will focus on Meredith and her brutal attack. However, viewers will later on find out about the couple once the season hit its 11th episode.

"You get little snippets in 9 and 10, but 11 is a big one. It was so much fun to shoot, an epic journey and every actor's dream, basically," she told the publication.

"Grey's Anatomy" season 12 episode 9 will air on ABC on Feb. 11 at 8 p.m. ET.
