'Jessica Jones' season 2 release date delay to 2017: 'The Defenders' comes first

(Marvel Jessica Jones / Facebook)"Jessica Jones" season 2 may come out in 2017.

Fans were thrilled to learn that Marvel and Netflix have finally renewed "Jessica Jones" for a second season. However, on the subject of its release date, viewers may have to wait a little longer.

Last March, Deadline reported that "Jessica Jones" season 2 has been given a green light from both Marvel and Netflix. On top of that, it will also have a new writer and executive producer joining, Raelle Tucker of "The Returned."

The not-so-good news, however, is that showrunner Melissa Rosenberg still has not revealed when they will be able to start working for season 2. In a previous interview with The Hollywood Reporter, she said, "The question becomes is there actual time? There are logistics involved, because 'Defenders' has to shoot by a certain time, contractually."

This is also the same reason why "Daredevil" will have to take the backseat, to give way for the upcoming Netflix superhero series, "The Defenders." It will be a min-series that will follow the lives of Jessica Jones, Daredevil, Iron Fist, and Luke Cage.

Speaking of Luke Cage, the Marvel hero is having its own Netflix series that will premiere in September. It will start from Jessica Jones' farewell to Luke. So, for fans who are waiting for the heroine's comeback on the streaming platform, they may as well tune in to "Luke Cage" to follow more on their complicated relationship.

In an interview with Time, Luke Cage actor Mike Colter revealed about his character's relationship with Jessica.

"By the time ['Jessica Jones] ended, Jessica had brought on quite a bit of baggage, things he didn't want to deal with. I think that there was promise in their relationship at first," the actor said. "By the time we get to the beginning of 'Luke Cage,' he's had time to get himself back on his feet a little bit. But he's weary of women. He's weary of trusting people."

"Jessica Jones" season 2 is rumored to return on Netflix in 2017.
