'Kingdom Hearts 3' release news: Game will not feature 'Final Fantasy' characters

(Kingdom Hearts)Sora is the main protagonist of the "Kingdom Hearts" game series. In search for her friends, she meets different Disney characters.

"Kingdom Hearts" and "Final Fanstasy" games are two of the most popular games by developer Square Enix. While "Final Fantasy" has a world exclusive to its characters, "Kingdom Hearts" installations have successfully merged Disney characters and Disney-owned characters in the game. However, in the upcoming "Kingdom Hearts 3," no "Final Fantasy" character is included.

"At this moment, we are not really coming up with any plans for that, we're making original worlds and Disney worlds," co-director Tai Yasue said. There have been 21 "Final Fantasy" characters that appeared in "Kingdom Hearts" so far, which players encountered in worlds such as Hollow Bastion and Traverse Town.

Yasue shared they want variety in the game and the characters that appear and that the story also affects the characters they choose to appear.

Fans expected details about "Kingdom Hearts 3" to be revealed during the recently held Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3). However, it was "Kingdom Hearts 2.8" that was featured during the presentation. Gamers were advised to finish the game to understand the emotions Sora is going through when the third series comes out.

Yasue said, "In the 'Kingdom Hearts' universe, there's a complex story with a lot of threads." She shared that the destiny of Aqua, who players take control of on "Kingdom Hearts 2.8" is intertwined with Sora's destiny on "Kingdom of Hearts 3."

The two characters are alike in the sense that both are selfless and brave. Both set out on a journey to help their friends. The connection between the two will be revealed by the end of the game.

Aqua's journey starts in the Dark World, and as the game moves along, players will experience her sorrow and torment according to the director. Yasue said, "Learning about her adventure, and her pain, really gives meaning to when you start 'Kingdom Hearts 3.'"

"Kingdom Hearts 2.8" will be released in December and it is believed that "Kingdom Hearts 3" will follow soon.
