"Longmire," A&E's western crime drama premiered back in 2012 and became the network's most watched original scripted series. Through the years, the show also gained quite a loyal and strong fan base. But despite the show's success, A&E decided to cancel the show after three seasons, to the disappointment of its fans.

Salvation came three months later, when Netflix decided to pick up "Longmire" and ordered 10 episodes for its fourth season.

According to Adam Bartley, who plays "The Ferg," the move to Netflix made the most sense. "Now, we can kind of do whatever we want with the time. It's an open platform. Netflix is so great about how they promote their shows and put them out for Golden Globes and Emmys. With our show, we make movies every episode so it's a big undertaking. Netflix was the right suitor financially and in every way."

The fourth season debuted last Sept. 10 and is now available for streaming on Netflix. The streaming service usually announces if a show is picked up for another season right before or soon after the current season is released. So far, it has not made any announcements regarding a possible fifth season for "Longmire."

Now, avid fans are again left wondering about the fate of their beloved show.

During the Television Critics Association press tour earlier this year, "Longmire" stars Robert Taylor and Lou Diamond Philips revealed that they were hopeful that the show would not end after season four.

When asked about whether season four will provide closure for the series, Phillips answered, "Oh hell no! We all need a job in Season 5. We're not closing anything." Taylor also added that some of the storylines in season four are expected to continue on to the next season.

While Netflix has yet to reveal the fate of the show, Netflix Chief Content Officer, Ted Sarandos, praised the "very loyal, strong base" that the show has. According to Sarandos, while the show didn't work for A&E, "it will work great for Netflix." It seems that despite the lack of updates, a renewal is still highly likely.

For the meantime, fans of the show can stream all four seasons of "Longmire" on Netflix.
