'Man of Steel 2' release ddate: movie sequel being developed as top priority
It has been three years since the movie "Man of Steel" hit theaters and other DC projects have been released since. It is now being reported that a sequel is being developed and Warner Bros. considers the film a top priority.
The news was first shared by The Wrap whose source is said to be someone familiar with the project. The source also said that "Man of Steel 2" is considered the studio's top priority. In 2014, Warner Bros. CEO Kevin Tsujihara announced that there are nine DC films in the lineup.
"Man of Steel" launched the DC's Cinematic Universe back in 2013 and the movie was directed by Zack Synder and produced by Christopher Nolan. Actor Henry Cavill wore the suit that he wore again for the recently released "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice," whose story took place after the events in "Man of Steel."
Most recently released is "Suicide Squad," which takes place after the events in "Dawn of Justice" and, in the post credit, a hint to the upcoming movie, "Justice League," which will be released in November 2017, was included. "Wonder Woman" will be released months ahead as its premiere will be in June 2017. "Aquaman" will follow in July 2018.
Standalone movies for "Batman," "Cyborg," and "The Flash" have also been ordered as well as a "Justice League" sequel. Warner has reserved two slots for DC movies in October 2018 and November 2019 and may take some time for the announcement to take place.
In the meantime, Cavill's Superman died in "Dawn of Justice," but he will rise again in "Justice League." It is not known yet how his resurrection will happen, but it is widely speculated that the events will follow what was written in the comics where the power of the sun will bring him back to life.
