'Mr. Robot' season 2 news: Upcoming season to feature rapper Joey Bada$$ as Elliot's friend; two cast members promoted to series regulars
Season 2 of the breakout drama series "Mr. Robot" will return to television sets later this year. Just a few days before the start of filming, the USA Network has announced cast promotions and additions for the upcoming season.
Michael Cristofer had a recurring role back in season 1 as Evil Corp CEO Philip Price. Stephanie Corneliussen also recurred as Joanna, Tyrell Wellick's ruthless wife. Both Cristofer and Cornelissen have been promoted to series regulars for season 2. Viewers will be able to see more of their characters in the upcoming season.
Meanwhile, season 2 of "Mr. Robot" will also be introducing new faces.
Rapper Jo-Vaugn Virginie Scott, who goes by the moniker Joey Bada$$, will make his television debut as Leon. According to his character description, Leon becomes a new friend of Elliot. He comes from the same neighborhood and the two become close as Leon advises Elliot on different matters while at the same time pondering about the meaning of life.
Chris Conroy also joins "Mr. Robot" as Derek, a young man with dashing good looks. As Joanna has severed ties with her husband in season 1, Derek enters her life as a new love interest.
Joey and Conroy will also be joined by Grace Gummer. Her addition to the cast was announced a few weeks ago. Gummer will portray Dominique DiPierro, an FBI agent who arrives to investigate the Evil Corp hack.
Last month, the writers of "Mr. Robot" revealed their writing process for season 2. Unlike season 1 wherein only six episodes were completed before production, season 2 will have all 10 episodes will have already been completed before shooting begins. Creator and showrunner Sam Esmail was also heavily involved in the writing process.
"Sam has a really good sense of where we're going with the story and what's happening with Elliot before we even start. The fact that he's involved so intimately with the writing, with the directing, with the shooting, with the editing – he's so entrenched in every aspect of the show. His stamp is all over it; it's great," writer Kor Adana told USA Network.
Season 2 of "Mr. Robot" returns to the USA Network this summer. At this time, a specific premiere date has not yet been announced. Stay tuned for all the latest news and updates.
