'Narcos' season 3 release date, cast news: show's cast roster expands
With "Narcos" confirmed to stay with Netflix for another two seasons, it is highly likely that the story, which is picking up from the rise of the Cali Cartel after Pablo Escobar's (Wagner Moura) death, will extend to the birth of the Mexican drug cartels. As can be expected, new cast members will join the show and "Sleepy Hollow" actor Nicholas Gonzalez will come on board to play a DEA agent.
"I think there will be a pretty good mix of new and old. I'd liken it to season two in that there were a lot of new characters that were added," showrunner Eric Newman told The Hollywood Reporter in an interview.
"We like telling the story of some of the unknowns in the drug war, the people who were touched by it. The Limon-Maritza story really resonated with people and I'm proud of that. It's a multiple narrative so there will be a number of new stories that hopefully will be captivating."
According to Deadline, Gonzalez will be seen in a recurring role as Lopez, a highly experienced American DEA agent. In addition to Gonzalez, actress Andrea Londo will join the show to portray the role of a former Colombian beauty queen known as Maria.
Kerry Bishe will also come on board as a regular cast member to play the role of Christina, the wife of a Colombian involved in a drug cartel.
Moreover, actor Pedro Pascal is also confirmed to reprise his role as DEA agent Javier Pena. However, there is no official word yet from show executives if Moura and Boyd Holbrook will still join the show in season 3. Michael Stahl-David and Matt Whelan are also expected to be part of the TV series.
The upcoming season will introduce the godfathers from the Cali cartel as confirmed by showrunner Eric Newman. The group is made up of brothers Gilberto (Damian Alcazar) and Miguel (Francisco Denis), Pacho Herrera (Alberto Amman), and the fourth is known as "Chepe," an intriguing character that is believed to add color to the show. Gilberto, according to a Game N Guide article, is expected to play a major role in the series who might just turn out to be the new villain after Pablo's death in season 2.
"Narcos" season 3 is slated to return in 2017 on Netflix. The network has yet to announce the show's official release date.
