The New York Knicks' search for rebuilding may have to wait a little longer as they are unable to lure the big name players.

Despite having Phil Jackson at the helm, the 2014-15 season has been disastrous for the Knicks, as they only amassed a 17-65 record, placing them last in the Eastern Conference and giving them the second-worst record in the league, only behind the Minnesota Timberwolves with a 16-66 record.

Things did not pan out too well for them in the 2015 Draft Lottery as they were beaten by the Wolves, the Los Angeles Lakers and the Philadelphia 76ers on the top-three pick, and settled to get fourth.

They do have a superstar in the line-up in the form of Carmelo Anthony, but he definitely needs more help, which he doesn't seem to be getting from his current teammates.

Furthermore, the players whom they had deemed to be disposable have gone on to play well, with J.R. Smith and Iman Shumpert being sent to the Cleveland Cavaliers, resulting in them taking part in the NBA finals.

Shane Larkin, Langston Galloway and Tim Hardaway, Jr seem to be good players, but are not at the kind of level needed in order to rise above mediocrity.

And with the coming summer, there are rumors about trade talks, with New York said to have thrown in their name into the discussion when it comes to big teams. Whether or not the Knicks will be able to sign them is another issue altogether.

According to sources, the Knicks are interested in signing Marc Gasol of the Memphis Grizzlies. They may certainly give Gasol the money, but at his stage in the game, he is most-certainly looking for a winning team that can give him the best chance for a championship.

Goran Dragic of the Miami Heat is another target, but the point guard has expressed his wish to stay in Florida to play with a team ready to contend in the playoffs.

With few options remaining, the Knicks may simply have to look at their rivals, the Brooklyn Nets to sign a new player.

Brook Lopez has proven to be the best player in the Nets' roster, but has been riddled with injuries, which have slowed down his play and dropped his stock among other teams.

Lopez may be the best player that the Knicks can get who is willing to play for New York considering the circumstances. The Knicks may also be willing to risk paying the 27-year-old a huge amount of money to be able to move forward despite risking injury.

Things are never too clear in the Big Apple, but securing a player like Brook Lopez may be a start.
