Nina Dobrev news: 'The Final Girls' star talks about scaring Alexander Ludwig; admits she's not a fan of horror
Nina Dobrev has gone from playing a vampire in "The Vampire Diaries" to playing a mean girl trapped in an '80s slasher flick. But for all her time immersed in dark and scary shows, the actress surprisingly doesn't like watching horror films.
The actress made the surprising revelation during a sit-down she did with Entertainment Weekly. According to Dobrev, she doesn't "like to pay to be afraid" and actually prefers to watch comedies or action movies.
The woman who portrayed the vampire Elena in the popular series "The Vampire Diaries" likens her mindset to a hairdresser who doesn't want to see a hot tool at the end of the day, saying she likes the things that are the opposite of what she does in her job.
But despite her seeming fatigue with horror, the 26-year-old actress enjoyed her time in "The Final Girls," especially when she was playing pranks on her co-stars. She became known for scaring her cast mates and admitted that she really found "joy in other people's fear and discomfort."
Her usual victim was Alexander Ludwig and shared that he was probably the first victim of her "scare series." The "Degrassi" alum said she would take every opportunity she could to "hide behind any wall or in a dark corner, behind a curtain" and scare him. She revealed that she found it really funny to scare "The Hunger Games" actor because he was such a large man but screams like a little girl.
When asked how she got involved in "The Final Girls" when she had such a busy schedule shooting "The Vampire Diaries," Dobrev said she was intrigued after seeing some of the short films made by the film's director, Todd Strauss-Schulson.
The Bulgarian-Canadian actress said it was good too or she would have been confused by Strauss-Schulson's style if she just read the script right off the bat. As it is, she signed up to play Vicki, the film's resident mean girl with a heart.
However, the actress defended her character as not really mean, but more of honest and blunt.
Dobrev has another project in the works, "Arrivals," which also stars Asa Butterfield and "Game of Thrones" star Maisie Williams.
