One Direction will take a year-long hiatus starting in March 2016; members to focus on solo projects
Apparently, the One Direction boys are no longer headed in just one direction. Yesterday's news of the band temporarily breaking up broke the Internet.
March is looking to be a bad month for Directioners. In March of this year, One Direction member, Zayn Malik, departed from the band and next year, the same month will see the start of at least a year-long hiatus of the band, says PEOPLE.
The four boys of One Direction, namely Niall Horan, Liam Payne, Harry Styles, and Louis Tomlinson, agreed to take a break from the band next year, to get some much needed rest, as well as to dabble a bit on their solo careers. The break will come shortly after the band releases the fifth album which they are currently recording. That means, fans of the band won't see them go on tour for the said album.
News of the hiatus had been crawling through the grapevine in months. Producer and songwriter for the band, Julian Bunetta, told Entertainment Weekly earlier this month that the band is thinking of taking a "much-deserved" break.
Asked if the upcoming album will be the last for the lads, Bunetta simply answered, "They've been doing something that no band has ever done — five albums, five tours, and a movie in five years. It's pretty prolific and incredible. It's up to them. They might take a year off and miss it. They might take a year off and say you know what, I need another year off."
One Direction has just released a music video for their latest single, "Drag Me Down," which is also the first single off their still untitled fifth studio album. The song showcased a slightly different sound for the band, hinting on some dubstep and dark house influences. The band will reportedly promote the fifth album only until February of next year before going on their different directions.
