'Orange Is the New Black' news: Star Laura Prepon isn't leaving over Scientology religion

(Reuters/File)'Orange is the New Black' cast members Taylor Schilling (L) and Laura Prepon (R) attend the second season premiere of the show in New York (May 2014).

Laura Prepon's Alex Vause is one of the most popular and long standing characters in "Orange Is the New Black." But recent reports state the star is thinking of leaving the show after season four because of Scientology.

The actress has made no secret of her connection to Scientology and some say that this is causing some considerable problems with her role. As Alex Vause, Prepon plays a lesbian living life behind bars with her lover, Piper.

Several reports stated that while Laura has nothing against gay people, Scientology is not tolerant of the lifestyle. This has started the actress thinking about her role and how "being a gay icon isn't something she wants for her career."

Luckily for fans of Prepon, celebrity site, Gossip Cop, claims that the 35-year-old actress has no intention of leaving "Orange Is the New Black" just because of Scientology. The site allegedly got in touch with some people close to Prepon who said that not only were the reports untrue, but her belief in Scientology does not affect her career choices.

As a matter of fact, the "That 70's Show" alum even admitted in a previous interview that Scientology has even helped her become a better actress, particularly with her role as Alex Vause.

This is certainly good news for those fans who ship Alex and Piper and who are hoping that the two estranged lovers will work things out in season four. Prepon pointed out though that regardless of what happens to the two, whether they do get back together or not, they will always have a special connection and will always have each other's backs.

Alex and Piper had a rough time last season with Piper becoming power-hungry and Alex apparently attacked by people who want her dead.

Unfortunately, fans still have a long ways to go before season four of "Orange Is the New Black" returns to Netflix in June 2016.
