The young John Grey has already made his appearance in the previous season of "Outlander"  and was portrayed by actor Oscar Kennedy. Executive producer Ronald Moore said they are looking into his story arc in the novel for his appearance in the upcoming season 3. Meanwhile, lead female star Caitriona Balfe talks about the impending union between her character Claire and her husband Jamie, who is portrayed by actor Sam Heughan.

While he is considered a protagonist, John is a controversial character in author Diana Gabaldon's book, where the TV series is based on. The viewers are excited to see the reunion of Jamie and Claire in the upcoming season but are also intrigued as to how John will be portrayed in the series.

In the author's novels, John has formed a strong friendship with Jamie but is also revealed to be a closeted gay who falls in love with his friend. He has helped Jamie in his journey and, while his feelings are unrequited, viewers are still curious how this will play out in season 3.

Meanwhile, Balfe seems to share the excitement of the viewers with regard to the most anticipated reunion. She said in an interview, "I think what's going to be most exciting is the reunion between Claire and Jamie and them discovering each other again and falling in love all over again." But the actress also knows that the relationship of the two has become complicated.

The next season will feature what happens when they see each other for the first time in 20 years. Claire thought Jamie has died and, after discovering that he lived, she decides to travel back in time once again. On the conflict the pair is about to face, Balfe said, "I love the complexity of that, because you can't be in love with a ghost, and Claire is in many ways in love with Jamie's ghost, as Jamie is in love with her ghost."

Filming for "Outlander" season 3 is expected to start soon with the show returning to the small screen in 2017.
